In early 2000, 20 new bunk beds were donated by a local furniture merchant to start a dormitorio (dormitory) in an albergue (shelter). This shelter allows up to 40 children to attend school and have safe housing 4 nights a week, Monday to Thursday.

Some of these children live on the street; others are from highly unstable homes or from poor villages outside the city center where there is no school. Teachers donate their time for after-school programs in dancing and art, and to sleep with the children overnight. The shy, withdrawn children are blossoming into eager students who are now part of a loving, supportive community. Donations of cotton t-shirts and shorts, and personal care supplies are always needed.

For an annual sponsorship of just $400 USD per year - that's $1.09 per day - you can Adopt-A-Bed and keep it ready to support a needy child, including three hot meals a day, five days a week.
